Point Pleasant — Mothman
Point Pleasant, West Virginia, 1966–67: locals report a seven-foot winged thing with glowing red eyes that paces cars and loiters near the TNT area. Newspapers dub it Mothman. On December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge collapses and kills 46 people—and forever after, the creature gets cast as omen, cryptid, or both.
John Keel’s later mythmaking turbocharged the story into high-strange scripture. The Mothman Museum keeps the receipts (and the souvenirs). Credible multi-witness consistency is why cryptozoology still treats Point Pleasant as a pillar case even when explanations range from sandhill crane to ultra-terrestrial fever dream.
